Detox Cleanse 2008 = Fail, Hemp Oil = Win

Well, okay... it was not a complete failure. It was a semi-failure. I did not go the full seven days, only five, but I was so hungry it was ridiculous. I do feel like a lot of toxins were eliminated from my body, but I do regret not finishing out the last two days of raw fruits and vegetables. When I broke the diet, I ate an extremely heavy and expensive meal which made me tired and stomach-achy for twenty-four hours after I ate it. Believe it or not, I ate a big meal of salmon and spinach! Why salmon? Well, I have been acutely feeling a lack of omega 3 fatty acids in my vegetarian diet and was craving some fish to provide it. I really do not like eating fish all that much, though. It is too heavy in my stomach and I am acutely aware that supporting the fishing industry inadvertently contributes to the clubbing of baby seals (seriously). One solution I happened upon this weekend is hemp oil, which has the same amount of omega 3 fatty acids as fish. It tastes a little funky, but it is better than the alternative.

I Heart CSS

Over the past couple of months I read a book called Transcending CSS by Andy Clarke (a Welsh bloke). It was an amazingly awesome read and really inspired me to go forward with my knowledge of CSS. Right now I am rebuilding fbirecordings.net with my new knowledge. Making purely Flash websites is probably a thing of the past for me. I still think it is a beautiful tool for interactive media, I think that it is but one of the components a great website is made from. Now, back to creating a menu with rollovers in CSS!

Detox Cleanse Diet 2008 - Day Three

So it turns out that I did not escape the symptoms of caffeine withdrawal, I spent all day yesterday sick at home - headachy, body-achy, nauseous, and puking my guts out until about midnight last night. It felt like my gall bladder was in over-drive producing bile and my stomach was doing everything it could do to get rid of it. Today I felt somewhat better and made it into work. I did not eat a damn thing yesterday and all I have had today was a pineapple smoothie, a strawberry smoothie, and some lemon-ginger echinacea juice. I almost want to consider yesterday an all juice day, that way I only have one day to go (is that cheating?).

As bad as I feel, I am really glad that I am doing this. This past year has been very trying for me... I have been suffering from major bouts of depression. I think that most of my issues have been resolved (I spent 3 months going to Acupuncture and have started therapy about a month ago), but my health has really suffered. I have been eating way too much dairy foods and consequently put on some weight. I also have been eating out way too much... and god knows how unhealthy some of the foods I have put into my body were. I joined the gym at U.Va., got a bike, and started taking yoga classes. I also cut out the dairy intake and am relieved to see the weight coming off. I have about five more pounds to go and I will be satisfied and feel back to normal. I might make it ten if I can get my fitness level up enough.

Anyway, I am rambling. =)

Two more days to go until I can eat solid foods again. Yay!

Annual Cleanse 2008

So I finally got the momentum up to do my annual cleansing diet. Usually I try to do it in the Spring but now is as good of time as any. This morning I had some yerba mate with almond milk and some green juice. For lunch I had raw lasagna, a raw nori roll and Naked Gold Machine smoothie. I did go to mudhouse and got a Yerba Mate Latte (with soy milk) but I am not going to beat myself up over it. I am sp psyched because I finally got my Beetle back on Saturday and it is running sweeeeeeeeeeet! The only problem is I think one or both of my high beam bulbs are burned out, and when I turn on the headlights the high beam light comes on and stays on even when it is switched to low beam.

I am finishing up another design for the U.Va. Music Department web site at work. I have also been redesgning/building the FBI website in my spare time.

Testing From Flock

I just started playing around with the web browser Flock, and I am very impressed with how it has an integrated Blog Editor that lets you post to your blog very easily.
