Your Silent Face

A thought that never changes
Remains a stupid lie
It's never been quite the same
No hearing or breathing
No movement, no colors
Just silence

Rise and fall of shame
A search that shall remain
We asked you what you'd seen
You said you didn't care

Sound formed in a vacuum
May seem a waste of time
It's always been just the same
No hearing or breathing
No movement no lyrics
Just nothing

The sign that leads the way
The path we can not take
You've caught me at a bad time
So why don't you piss off

--New Order

I have been a fan of New Order since I was 14 years old (1988) but never owned the album "Power, Corruption, and Lies" until a recent record shopping trip in NYC. I found a new copy of the original 1983 pressing on vinyl at a store in the Village called Rockit Scientist. I have often been told that it is the best New Order album ever made and I think I agree. I am glad that I held out and got a vinyl copy of the release because it really does sound fantastic - this song in particular makes me cry every time I listen to it. There is something very mystical about Bernhard's voice and pads in it - and the vinyl version has this deep rolling bass hum that grabs your solar plexus and makes you feel like you are floating.

Small Sturdy Steps

Those of you that are perhaps regular readers or know me personally may know that I have been working on one particular website for about six years now. The website is called technobass.net and it is a labor of love - something I conceptualized and took steps to create before I met Santino, before I went back to school to finish my BFA in Multimedia and Web Design, before I joined Fundamental Bass Intelligence and got serious about DJing and music production. I am happy to report that I have been working on it almost full time (in addition to my full time job) for quite a while now, and am getting really close to launching it. It is an online music community (social network) where artists, fans, etc of techno bass can come together and network. More details will come when it is launched! Right now I am going back to work. :)

Binary Mix Sessions Coming Back To Life?

Yesterday I filled out an application at WTJU (the radio station at University of Virginia) to get a radio show. I used to have a radio show there from 2002 - 2003 when I worked at U.Va. before. When I moved to Washington D.C. Santino and I resurrected it on an internet radio station called BREAKS.FM and then another internet radio station in the U.K. called Global Funk Radio. This continued on until 2007 when we decided we needed a break. That brings us to now, when I have been both simultaneously missing having the show, and looking for a way to promote our label locally.

This morning I received an email from the Station Manager (he remembered me!) to go in for a training session the day before my birthday. After I complete that, I will find out if I am going to get a slot and what time it will be. If they can only give me one at 3AM I am probably going to turn it down... otherwise, The Binary Mix Sessions could be coming back to life!

What is neat is that WTJU now webcasts its broadcasts. That means I will be doing FM and internet radio at the same time. Woot!
